5 ways to spot a fad diet

I wouldn’t recommend going on fad diets, except for when you are really short on time and you need to lose weight pronto. And I would also not recommend that when you go on fad diets to stay to long on it. Fad diets are nothing but a fad and you also tend to pick back up all the weight that you have lost. So the best thing to do is to try and avoid fad diets altogether. But how do you know it is a fad diet?
1. Promises a quick fix
Almost all fad diets make claims of a quick fix. Losing 10 or more pounds a week are very common with fad diets and some even goes up to as much as 20 pounds per week. This is the main characteristic of fad diets ad=and if a diet makes such claims, you should know it is a fad diet.
2. Severe calorie restriction
The other main characteristic of a fad diet is extreme calorie restriction. Anything from plus/minus 1000 calories and you know it is some fad diet.
3. Focus on one or two food groups only
Fad diets usually cuts out multiple food groups or they contain only one or two food groups. Examples of these include soup diets, egg diet and breakfast cereal diets.
4. Have a weird fad diet name
Fad diets almost always come out with a weird or funny name and they also have diet after their name. Think about the cookie diet, eat as much as you can diet and the cheaters diet.
5. Are very unhealthy
It is very hard to find a fad diet that is healthy. Most fad diets are highly unhealthy because of the calorie restriction and the weird combination of foods that are included.
By know you probably know what a fad diet looks like and how to look out for them. So next time you want to go on a diet, you will be armed with the right ammunition to recognize a fad diet. In such circumstances, try to rather go on a healthy diet that will teach you long term correct eating habits.
