Go Out And Run To Lose Weight
December 16, 2009
3 years ago I wasn’t the slim guy that I am today. Four long boozy years at university had left me a shadow of my former self. I was 252lbs, couldn’t run to the end of the road without feeling like I was coughing up a lung and myself esteem was pretty none existent.
On the 1st of January 2007 I decided that enough was enough; I put down the chips and dip, stepped away from the cakes and started reading how to lose weight and get on top of my weigh issues.
Over the next few months I must have read about, started and quickly stopped about 5 fad diet plans. You name it and I tried it. I was pretty much at my wits end. I wanted the weight to go but my weight had other ideas about hanging around.
Then one day while chatting to my grandmother about trying to lose weight she let me in on a secret that had been passed down through generations throughout the world. She provided the answer that so many diet books, forums and blogs had failed to address.
“Get your but outside and start running, then when you feel tired, turn around and head back the way you came”. Ok this isn’t exactly rocket science, I had shunned the idea of running seeing it as being too simple to be the answer but I was short on results and thought what the heck I might as well give it a go.
After a month of running only a few miles 4 times a week I had already started to feel better within me. I had more energy, I was fitter and best of all I dropped a stone in a healthy way.
Over time my runs got longer and when I had to go out and buy a new pair of running shoes, that’s when I realized how amazing running is as a form of fast weight loss, as a way to feel better about you and as a way to enjoy life.
