BMI is a measure of your body fat done by calculating your height and weight to determine your Body Mass Index. It can be used to see if you are underweight, normal weight, overweight, obese, or even morbid obesity. This important to know before beginning any diet program so you know where you need to be.
Generally you want to be in the normal weight range based on you height and weight, but the fact is that seventy percent of Americans will fall into the overweight category. This can give you a start on your weight loss journey, but it is always a good idea to talk to your doctor when determining the appropriate weight for yourself.
Underweight = < 18.5
Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
Overweight = 25-29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or more
